Exhibition Name
Constant velocity universal joint
Science Behind It
The fixed cage type constant velocity universal joint is an important component in the automotive power transmission system. As can be seen from the schematic diagram, it is mainly composed of active shaft, steel band clamp, outer cover, cage and other components. Among them, the star shaped sleeve is connected to the active shaft, with 6 grooves on the outer surface, and the inner surface of the spherical shell also has corresponding 6 grooves, forming 6 rolling channels for steel balls together with the 6 grooves of the star shaped sleeve. Six steel balls are held in the same plane by the cage. When the car engine starts working, power is transmitted from the drive shaft to the steel ball, and then transmitted outward through the spherical shell. Due to the fact that all six steel balls transmit power, and the transmission point is located on the bisector of the angle between the driving shaft and the driven shaft, the shafts on both sides transmit power at the same angular velocity.
