Exhibition Name
Airborne weighing
Science Behind It
The space scale uses the same ordinary electronic scale as the one on the left, but there is a magnet on the scale and a magnet under the tray. Due to the characteristic of magnets having the same polarity repelling and opposite polarity attracting, these two magnets installed in the direction shown in the figure form a magnetic levitation combination. The item is placed on a tray and a magnetic levitation combination is used to apply pressure to the electronic scale below, and the weight of the item is weighed. However, although we have zeroed the electronic scale and calculated the weight of objects such as trays, there is still some measurement error in the actual weighing results due to the influence of friction between the magnet and the transparent plastic tube. Think about it, where in life have the principles of magnetic attraction and repulsion been applied?
