Exhibition Name
Looking at a leopard through a tube
Science Behind It
The screen on the booth is a liquid crystal display, but it has one less layer of polarizing film than a normal liquid crystal display. A normal LCD display mainly consists of four parts: backlight, lower polarizer, LCD, and upper polarizer. The backlight emits light, which passes through the lower polarizer, liquid crystal, and upper polarizer to present the image. exhibits will turn the upper polarizer into a "sight glass", retaining only three parts inside the screen: backlight, lower polarizer, and LCD. When viewed with the naked eye at level, there is nothing, but when observed through a "peephole", an image appears. Rotating the "sight glass" changes the relative angle between the upper and lower polarizing films, and the transmitted light also changes, resulting in a change in image color. Polarizers are used in photography and glasses for watching 3D movies.
