Exhibition Name
Coriolis force
Science Behind It
When the large disk is stationary, the belt moves in a straight line around the axis; When the large disk rotates, due to inertia, the belt still wants to maintain its original straight trajectory, but due to the influence of the Coriolis force in the rotating system, the motion trajectory of the belt becomes a curve. When the direction of rotation of the belt around the axis is the same as the direction of rotation of the large disk, the belt protrudes outward; When the direction is opposite, the belt sinks inward. The Earth is the largest rotating system, and there is also Coriolis force. In the field of Earth science, why is the right bank of rivers in the Northern Hemisphere steeper than the left bank of rivers in the Southern Hemisphere; Why does the atmosphere not flow directly towards the center of the low-pressure system, but ultimately form cyclones in different directions in the northern and southern hemispheres? There is a reasonable explanation given by the Coriolis force.
