Tesla coil is a transformer made using the principle of electromagnetic resonance. Invented by Serbian American scientist Nikola Tesla in 1891, it is used to produce ultra-high voltage but low current, high-frequency alternating current electricity. The primary and secondary of the coil are both LC oscillation circuits, with L1C1 ≈ L2C2. The primary capacitor C1 is larger and the inductance L1 is smaller. With the cooperation of the driving circuit, high-frequency high current oscillation occurs. The secondary coil generates electromagnetic resonance due to the same natural frequency. Its capacitance C2 is the sum of the ground capacitance of the secondary coil and the top ring, which is only a few tens of picofarads (PF), while its inductance is larger, reaching several hundred millihenries (Mh). In this way, a ground voltage of nearly one million volts will be generated in the secondary coil. The breakdown voltage of normal dry air is 1-2kV, and a voltage of nearly one million volts can penetrate about 1 meter of air, producing beautiful and spectacular discharge phenomena. Load music waves into the oscillation circuit of the primary coil, so that the ground discharge of the secondary coil is controlled by the music waves, and spectacular discharge can generate music.
