Electromagnetic cannon is an advanced kinetic energy killing weapon made using electromagnetic launch technology, which uses traditional gunpowder to propel the cannon for firing. Electromagnetic guns can greatly increase the speed and range of projectiles.
The firing principle of an electromagnetic gun is the same as the working principle of a regular electric motor, and an electromagnetic gun can be regarded as a special "electric motor". After being powered on, the current passes through the stator, which is the coil on the gun body, generating electromagnetic force, and the rotor, which is the shell, runs at high speed under the push of electromagnetic force.
Electromagnetic guns can currently be divided into four types: coil guns, railguns, electric guns, and heavy artillery. The coil cannon is the earliest form of electromagnetic cannon, consisting of an acceleration coil and a projectile coil, and operates based on the principle of magnetic field interaction between energized coils. A railgun uses the Ampere force of the interaction between orbital currents to launch projectiles. The principle of an electric cannon is completely different from the two types of electromagnetic cannons mentioned above. The simplest one is to use a high-pressure arc to generate high-pressure plasma, which accelerates the projectile. The reconnection gun is a multi-stage acceleration non-contact electromagnetic launch device, which is the latest development form of electromagnetic guns.
