Fastest descent line/Which rolls faster/See who arrives first - Science Museum exhibitions exhibition items plan
What It Shows
The fastest descent line, also known as the "see who runs fast," "see who rolls fast," or "arrive first," has been designed with different shaped tracks on the exhibition stand. Each set of tracks has the same starting and ending points, but different tracks. There are three types of track lengths, one is a straight track and the other two are curved tracks (with different slopes of curvature). Participants can place identical balls at the starting point of the same set of tracks and release them simultaneously to observe how the balls move differently on different tracks. source factory of science museum exhibits - Shanghai Inertia Automation Co., Ltd. Remind the audience to deepen their understanding of the principle of the steepest descent line through various forms of interaction.
Science Behind It
The speed at which an object descends along an orbit is not simply determined by the length of the orbit, but also by the shape of the orbit. The greater the component of gravity acting on the ball along the tangent direction of the trajectory, the faster the falling speed, while the cycloid trajectory is a circular rolling curve with a steeper trajectory, source factory of science museum exhibits - Shanghai Inertia Automation Co., Ltd. Reminder: The component of gravity in its tangent direction is relatively large, and the ball's falling speed is relatively fast, so it reaches the endpoint first. Although the trajectory of a straight line is short, the ball's falling speed is slower than that on the curve, so it reaches the endpoint later.
How to Take Part
Based on the three different ways of participation mentioned above, let the audience understand and find the fastest descending line on this exhibition.
Description
Exhibition items are designed with three different shapes of tracks with the same starting point, namely straight, curved, and cycloid tracks. The audience places three small balls at the beginning of each track, pulls the limit rod, and causes all three balls to fall simultaneously. It can be seen that the ball on the cycloid track lands first at the endpoint, while the ball on the straight track lands last at the endpoint.
How to Operate
Place three small balls at the beginning of each of the three tracks, pull the limit rod, and observe which track's ball reaches the finish line first.
