1. Content

The exhibition items mainly demonstrate the principles of normal distribution in probability studies. Set up a bracket on the exhibition stand, which is designed with a rotatable organic glass frame. There are axisymmetric grooves in the frame, and a connecting port is left in the middle of the upper and lower grooves for only one ceramic bead to pass through. Multiple ceramic beads are placed in one slot of the frame, and the frame can rotate vertically to cause the ceramic beads inside to fall. By observing the falling process and final distribution of the ceramic beads, the probability and random phenomena can be understood.

Through interaction and observation, we can observe that ceramic beads ultimately exhibit a normal distribution, and thus understand that if a quantity is formed by the influence of many independent random factors, and the effects of each factor are relatively uniform, and the role of each individual factor in the total influence is not significant, then it follows (or approximately follows) a normal distribution.

2. Principle

The normal distribution, also known as the "normal distribution" or the Gaussian distribution, was first obtained by A. De Mauve in the asymptotic formula for the binomial distribution. C. F. Gauss derived it from another perspective when studying measurement errors. Normal distribution is a type of probability distribution for continuous random variables. A large number of phenomena in nature, human society, psychology, and education are distributed in a normal form, such as the level of ability and the quality of student performance. It has different distribution patterns depending on the size and units of the mean and standard deviation of the random variable. The standard normal distribution is a type of normal distribution where the mean and standard deviation are fixed, with a mean of 0 and a standard deviation of 1. The normal distribution is a probability distribution that is very important in fields such as mathematics, physics, and engineering, and has significant influence in many aspects of statistics.

Regarding the symmetry of μ, the maximum value is taken at μ, and the value is 0 at positive (negative) infinity. There is a turning point at μ ± σ, and the shape shows a high center and low sides. The probability density function curve of normal distribution is bell shaped, so it is often referred to as a bell shaped curve.

3. Purpose

Exhibition items use mechanical interaction to allow the audience to understand the knowledge of probability during the interactive experience, while also connecting it with real life to understand the application of probability.
