1. Content

The exhibition items consist of a magnetic tabletop, gear model, animation linkage device, and landscape roller linkage device.

The main body of the exhibition items is a worktable with a magnetic tabletop, on which some gears are placed. The fixed shaft material of the gears is iron, which can be adsorbed on the magnetic tabletop to meet the stability of the mutual driving between the gears. When the audience inserts their hands between the gears, they can also bounce off to ensure safety. The tabletop is equipped with a set of gears with operating handles, and two sets of fixed gear sets are connected to the landscaping drum and animation device respectively. The landscaping drum or animation device can be independently driven. Set up scenes for the four seasons of spring, summer, autumn, and winter on the landscaping drum. The animation device demonstrates cartoon like images of day and night alternation, with a slit on the cylinder and a continuous set of pictures drawn on the inside. When the driving gear rotates the cylinder, the continuous images on the opposite side can be seen through the moving slit.

Participants creatively combine various magnetic gears to connect the gear with a handle to a regular gear, and then connect it to a fixed gear connected to the animation device or drum. By turning the crank, participants will see animated images or demonstrate the rotation of the landscaping drum.

2. Principle

Gear:

Gear is a wheel shaped mechanical component that transmits torque through the meshing of teeth. Gears can achieve functions such as changing speed and torque, changing direction of motion, and changing form of motion by transmitting with other toothed mechanical components such as another gear, rack, and worm. Due to its high transmission efficiency, accurate transmission ratio, and wide power range, gear mechanisms are widely used in industrial products, and their design and manufacturing level directly affect the quality of industrial products. The interlocking of gear teeth will drive the rotation of another gear to transmit power. Separate the two gears and use chains, tracks, or belts to drive the gears on both sides and transmit power.

There are many types of gears, including spur gears, helical gears, bevel gears, worm gears, etc. Spur gears and helical gears are mainly used to transmit motion between parallel axes; The motion between perpendicular intersecting axes is often transmitted through bevel gears. Worm gears are often used to transmit motion between vertically misaligned axes. In addition, there are gear transmission mechanisms such as internal gears, bevel gears, helical gears, and hyperbolic gears.

Gear ratio:

Two gears of different diameters are combined to rotate together, and the gear with a larger diameter rotates slower than the gear with a smaller diameter. Their speed ratio is inversely proportional to the diameter of the gear. When the small gear transmits power to the large gear, the speed of rotation, the ratio of reduced rotation, and the torque amplification factor are all exactly equal to the ratio of the number of teeth between the two gears, which is called the "gear ratio".

Fenach Mirror:

The Fenach mirror, commonly known as a trap, is a device that can generate continuous moving images. It was invented by Belgian Joseph Pratt and Austrian Simon von Stauffenfel in 1832. The Fenache mirror is a prototype of a movie that utilizes the principle of visual persistence. It has two structural forms. The first is to vertically install a disc with a continuous set of images on the handle, with a narrow gap in the center and a mirror on the opposite side. When the disc rotates, a continuous motion image can be seen through the narrow gap in motion from the opposite mirror. The second method is to use two cylindrical discs, one with a narrow slit on the outer disc and the other with an image on the inner disc. When the inner disc rotates and moves, the viewer can see the moving image through the narrow slit.

3. Purpose

Through the interactive assembly of gears, visitors can master the structure of gears and the principles of transmission, as well as understand the concept of gear ratios and traditional animation installations.
