Mechanical transmission mainly refers to the transmission of power and motion through mechanical means. There are various forms of mechanical transmission, which can be mainly divided into two categories: friction transmission that relies on the frictional force between machine parts to transmit power, and meshing transmission that relies on the engagement of the driving and driven parts or the use of intermediate parts to transmit power or motion.

Common belt drive, rope drive, and friction wheel drive are all friction drives. The basic principle of belt transmission is to rely on the frictional force between the belt and the pulley to transmit motion and power. Rope transmission is a mechanical transmission that relies on the friction between the rope tightly wound around the pulley and the pulley to transmit power and motion. Friction wheel transmission refers to a mechanical transmission that utilizes the frictional force between two or more wheels that are pressed against each other to transmit power and motion.

Gear transmission, chain transmission, and spiral transmission all belong to meshing transmission. Gear transmission is composed of two gears that are respectively installed on the driving shaft and the driven shaft and mesh with each other. When the chain drive is in operation, the teeth of the driving sprocket mesh with the chain links of the chain to drive the driven sprocket drive that meshes with the chain. Spiral transmission is the use of a spiral pair consisting of screws and nuts to achieve transmission requirements, mainly used to convert rotary motion into linear motion.
