Curved Water Flow - Customization of Science Museum Exhibitions, Campus Community Science Popularization Equipment, Source Manufacturer of Science Exhibitions Description and Introduction of Scientific Principles:

The exhibition items consist of a faucet and two metal balls, showcasing knowledge about polar molecules. Press the button to energize any metal ball, and you will find that the water flow no longer presents a vertical falling state, but bends in the direction of the energized metal ball. Why does water flow bend towards an electrified metal ball? This is because individual water molecules themselves have polarity, with positive and negative charge centers not overlapping and facing each other, carrying both positive and negative charges. Macroscopically, due to thousands of water molecules moving towards freedom, their polarities cancel each other out, resulting in an overall uncharged state. When the high-voltage electrode is energized, the negative charge carried on the electrode will induce water molecules, and water molecules will begin to align in a directional manner. The previously cancelled polarity cannot be completely cancelled out, so water will have a situation of "positively charged near the electrode and negatively charged away from the electrode". Next, it's easy to understand that the negative electrode is close to the positive electrode and attracts each other, and the force is strong; They repel each other on the negative side, but the force is weak. So the electrified metal ball exhibits an overall attraction to water flow. The polarity of molecules has a significant impact on the solubility of substances: polar molecules are easily soluble in polar solvents, while non-polar molecules are easily soluble in non-polar solvents, also known as "similar phase solubility". Under the same molecular weight, polar molecules have a higher boiling point than non-polar molecules.
