The Yunnan Science Museum is located in Kunming City, Yunnan Province. It is a large-scale comprehensive science popularization venue at the provincial level in the southwest region. The new museum has a total construction area of 45000 square meters and a permanent exhibition hall area of 19000 square meters. It is equipped with a ball screen cinema, a 4D dynamic cinema, a multifunctional lecture hall, and a maker innovation center. The venue offers free online real name reservation, open to the public from Wednesday to Sunday, and closed for maintenance on Monday and Tuesday. The venue is equipped with seven permanent exhibition areas: Basic Science Exhibition Hall, Aerospace Exhibition Hall, Life and Evolution Exhibition Hall, Ecological Diversity Exhibition Hall, Ethnic Traditional Technology Exhibition Hall, Digital Technology Exhibition Hall, and Children's Science Playground. The Basic Science Exhibition Hall has a large-scale cluster of interactive exhibitions on sound, light, electricity, and magnetism; Aerospace exhibition hall displays spacecraft models and immersive simulation experience equipment; The Life and Evolution Exhibition Hall explains the process of biological evolution; The Ecological Diversity Exhibition Hall is the flagship feature of our museum, focusing on the kingdom of flora and fauna in Yunnan and showcasing the biodiversity resources of Southwest China; The exhibition hall of traditional ethnic science and technology excavates the ancient crafts, farming, and water conservancy wisdom of various ethnic groups in Yunnan; The digital technology exhibition hall showcases artificial intelligence and cutting-edge information technology; Children's Science Playground is designed for different age groups of children and adolescents. The supporting cinema provides immersive science popularization movies, and the Maker Center conducts science and technology innovation training for the whole province.
The venue undertakes the leading role of science popularization in Yunnan Province, with research courses covering all school age groups and hosting a large number of national research groups. Regularly hold science popularization lectures, science experiment carnivals, and youth science and technology innovation competitions, and hold multiple science and technology innovation summer camps during winter and summer vacations. The science popularization caravan sinks to campuses in prefectures and mountainous areas to carry out mobile science popularization, and at the same time provides business training for science popularization practitioners in southwestern provinces, exporting exhibition planning and exhibition operation experience.
Yunnan has a large temperature difference between day and night, high humidity in some areas, a large number of exhibitions in large venues, and high equipment wear and pressure. A dedicated operation and maintenance department will be established at the venue, and mechanical and electrical technicians will strictly follow the inspection and maintenance process. The motor, sensor, and controller components will be replaced regularly to ensure a high level of integrity for large-scale exhibitions. Yunnan Science Museum is based on Southwest biology and multi-ethnic culture, creating a provincial-level science popularization base with strong regional recognition.
