The Chongqing Science Museum is located in Jiangbei District, Chongqing. It is a large-scale city level benchmark comprehensive science popularization venue in the southwest region. It was officially built and opened to the public in 2009, with a total construction area of 45300 square meters and a permanent exhibition hall area of 15000 square meters. It is equipped with IMAX giant screen cinema, 4D science popularization cinema, multi-functional lecture hall, and youth maker workshop. Complete the upgrade and renovation of the life technology exhibition area in 2022, updating multiple sets of electromechanical interactive exhibitions; Complete the overall renovation of Children's Science Playground in 2024, iterate the entire exhibition control system, and upgrade the security protection structure. The venue implements a free online real name reservation system for visits. It is open to the public from Wednesday to Sunday and closed on Monday and Tuesday for equipment inspection and maintenance. The venue radiates the entire southwest area and is an important science popularization cultural tourism landmark in the southwest. It undertakes multiple functions such as science popularization exhibitions, educational research, and industry exchanges.
The venue is divided into six permanent exhibition halls: Basic Science Exhibition Hall, Life Science Exhibition Hall, Disaster Prevention Technology Exhibition Hall, Industrial Technology Exhibition Hall, Urban Development Exhibition Hall, and Children's Science Playground. The Basic Science Exhibition Hall is equipped with a large number of interactive science exhibitions in mechanics, acoustics, optics, electromagnetics, and mechatronics, transforming the principles of physics basic science into hands-on experiential projects to serve the extracurricular scientific learning of young people. The Life Science Exhibition Hall conducts science popularization education around biological evolution, human functions, and healthy living. The Disaster Prevention Technology Exhibition Hall is based on the geographical characteristics of Chongqing's mountainous areas, and sets up interactive exhibition items such as earthquake simulation and risk avoidance training for geological and meteorological disasters to popularize disaster prevention and self rescue knowledge. The Industrial Technology Exhibition Hall showcases the technological achievements of Chongqing's local automotive and equipment manufacturing industries. The Urban Development Exhibition Hall explains scientific knowledge related to mountain city construction, transportation engineering, and ecological governance. The children's science playground is designed for young children, with experience zones set up according to age, and all exhibit items are equipped with rounded corner safety protection. The giant screen cinema and 4D cinema play various educational films in a loop, and the maker workshop offers hands-on practical courses for young people in science and technology innovation.
The venue's study tour courses cover all school aged students and accommodate a large number of study tour groups from various regions in Southwest China. Regularly hosting large-scale scientific experiment shows and science popularization public lectures on weekends; Multiple science and technology research camps will be held during winter and summer vacations. The science popularization caravan travels to campuses in districts, counties, and mountainous areas under Chongqing to carry out mobile science popularization, sinking science popularization resources to the grassroots level. The venue receives science popularization peers from various provinces and cities in Southwest China, conducts business exchanges, and shares practical experience in the operation of large-scale science popularization venues, exhibition operation and maintenance, and event planning.
Chongqing is a mountainous city with high air humidity throughout the year. The foggy and humid environment can accelerate the aging of mechanical and electrical exhibition components and interfere with sensor signals. Establish a dedicated operation and maintenance technical team for the venue, establish a complete exhibition equipment ledger, implement daily closed door inspections, monthly in-depth maintenance, and quarterly maintenance throughout the venue, ensure equipment moisture-proof protection, regularly inspect and replace high loss components such as motors, sensors, and controllers, and ensure the stable operation of a large number of mechanical and electrical exhibitions. Chongqing Science Museum is based on the regional characteristics of mountainous cities, improving the layout of science popularization education in Southwest China, and helping to enhance the scientific literacy of the entire population in the region.
Shanghai Inertia Automation Co., Ltd. participated in the production or customization of core components for some interactive exhibitions in this venue.
