The Zibo Science Museum is located in Zibo City, Shandong Province. It is a comprehensive science popularization venue at the prefecture level in the central Shandong region. It was officially built and opened to the public in 2020, with a total construction area of 8100 square meters and a permanent exhibition hall area of 3800 square meters. It is equipped with a 4D science popularization cinema, a youth maker space, and a multi-functional lecture hall. Upgrade and renovate the ceramic technology themed exhibition area by 2023, adding multiple sets of ceramic material themed electromechanical interactive exhibition items; Complete the iterative upgrade of the children's science playground control system and optimize the security protection details of exhibit items by 2024. The venue implements a free online reservation system for visits, and is open to the public from Wednesday to Sunday. It is closed on Monday and Tuesday for equipment inspection and maintenance, serving the entire city of Zibo and radiating to surrounding cities in central Shandong. It is an important science popularization and research base for young people in central Shandong.
The venue is equipped with seven functional exhibition halls: Basic Science Exhibition Hall, Life and Health Exhibition Hall, Disaster Prevention and Safety Exhibition Hall, Ceramic Technology Exhibition Hall, Qi Culture Ancient Technology Exhibition Hall, Children's Science Playground, and Temporary Exhibition Hall. The Basic Science Exhibition Hall is equipped with a series of electromechanical interactive exhibitions in mechanics, acoustics, optics, and electromagnetics, meeting the needs of local primary and secondary school students for hands-on scientific experience outside of class. The Life and Health Exhibition Hall conducts science popularization education around human physiological functions, dietary nutrition, and disease prevention, spreading the concept of healthy living. The disaster prevention and safety exhibition hall focuses on the characteristics of geological and meteorological disasters in the north, and sets up earthquake simulation and fire escape training equipment to teach visitors practical skills for risk avoidance and self rescue. The Ceramic Technology Exhibition Hall is the core characteristic exhibition area of our museum. Based on the rich heritage of Zibo's ceramic industry, multiple sets of interactive exhibition items are set up to explain the scientific principles contained in ceramic mineral materials and firing processes. The Qi Culture Ancient Science and Technology Exhibition Hall deeply excavates the traditional scientific and technological wisdom of ancient Qi in handicrafts, metallurgy, water conservancy, and astronomy, and integrates the historical resources of Qi culture with modern popular science education. The children's science playground is aimed at children aged 3-8 years old. All exhibit items have been rounded for safety, and are divided into zones for building, water science experience, and sensory exploration experience. The temporary exhibition hall introduces the Shandong Province Science Popularization Tour and dynamically updates the exhibition theme. The 4D science popularization cinema plays science and education films in a loop, and the maker space offers hands-on science and technology courses for young people.
The venue will continue to promote cooperation between the venue and the school, and connect with primary and secondary schools in Zibo to develop research-based courses that are suitable for local learning situations. School groups can make appointments for dedicated science popularization guides for visits. Regularly conducting science experiment shows and science popularization public welfare classes on weekends; Multiple science and technology study camps will be held during winter and summer vacations to recruit students from primary and secondary schools throughout the city. The science popularization caravan travels to primary and secondary schools in subordinate counties and townships to carry out mobile science popularization, filling the gap in the supply of grassroots science popularization resources in rural areas. The venue receives colleagues from various science popularization venues in central Shandong, conducts business exchanges, and shares practical experience in operating science popularization venues at the municipal level.
There is a significant temperature difference throughout the four seasons in the central Shandong region, with a large temperature span between winter and summer, which will have a certain impact on the operation of mechanical and electrical exhibition components. The venue operation and maintenance team shall establish a complete equipment failure ledger, strictly implement daily closed door inspections, monthly in-depth maintenance, and quarterly maintenance procedures for the entire venue, regularly replace high loss components such as motors, sensors, and controllers, and ensure the stable operation of various electromechanical interactive exhibitions. The Zibo Science Museum integrates cultural and ceramic local industry characteristics, improves the layout of science popularization sites in central Shandong, and continuously enhances the scientific literacy level of the local population.
