The Zhangzhou Science Museum is located in Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province. It is a comprehensive science popularization venue at the prefecture level in the southern Fujian region. It was officially opened to the public in 2021, with a total construction area of 8600 square meters and a permanent exhibition hall area of 4000 square meters. It is equipped with a 4D science popularization cinema, maker practice space, and multifunctional lecture hall. Upgrade and renovate the marine science popularization exhibition area by 2023, adding multiple sets of marine themed electromechanical interactive exhibition items; In 2024, optimize the children's science playground as a whole, iterate the exhibits control system, and upgrade the security protection structure. The venue implements a free online real name reservation visit mode, open to the public from Wednesday to Sunday every week, closed on Monday and Tuesday for equipment inspection and maintenance, serving the entire city of Zhangzhou and radiating to surrounding cities in southern Fujian. It is an important science popularization, research and education base in southern Fujian.
The venue is divided into seven permanent sections: Basic Science Exhibition Hall, Marine Technology Exhibition Hall, Life and Health Exhibition Hall, Disaster Prevention and Reduction Exhibition Hall, Minnan Traditional Science and Technology Exhibition Hall, Children's Science Playground, and Temporary Exhibition Hall. The Basic Science Exhibition Hall is equipped with a large number of interactive exhibits in mechanics, acoustics, optics, electromagnetics, and mechatronics to serve primary and secondary school students' extracurricular scientific experiences, transforming textbook theories into practical scientific experiences. The Marine Technology Exhibition Hall is a featured exhibition area of our museum, relying on the advantageous location of Zhangzhou's coastal area to showcase scientific knowledge related to marine life, marine resource development, and marine disaster prevention. It is equipped with multiple sets of marine themed interactive experience devices. The Life and Health Exhibition Hall conducts science popularization education around human functions, disease prevention, and mental health, spreading the concept of scientific and healthy living. The Disaster Prevention and Reduction Exhibition Hall has set up exhibition items for disaster simulation and risk avoidance training based on the characteristics of typhoons, floods, and geological disasters in southern China, teaching visitors practical skills for self rescue and mutual assistance. The Minnan Traditional Technology Exhibition Hall deeply explores the traditional technological wisdom of ancient shipbuilding, agriculture, and handicrafts in Minnan, and integrates local historical and cultural elements into science popularization and teaching content. The children's science playground is designed for young children, with all exhibit items rounded for safety, and divided into multiple experience zones for water play experience, construction and creation. The temporary exhibition hall introduces the Fujian Provincial Science Popularization Tour and dynamically updates the exhibition theme. The 4D science popularization cinema plays various science and education films in a loop, and the maker practice space offers hands-on science and technology courses, open to young people.
The venue will carry out in-depth cooperation between the venue and the school, connect with local primary and secondary schools and universities in Zhangzhou, develop tiered study and practice courses, and undertake a large number of student group study tours. Groups can make appointments for dedicated science popularization lectures. Regularly holding science experiment shows and science popularization public lectures at venues on weekends; Multiple science and technology summer camps will be held during winter and summer vacations to carry out practical teaching in science and technology innovation. The science popularization caravan goes deep into county and township campuses to carry out mobile science popularization, delivering science popularization resources to the grassroots level and alleviating the current situation of insufficient science popularization resources in townships. The venue also receives counterparts from science popularization venues in southern Fujian and southern China, conducts business exchanges, and shares practical experience in venue operation, exhibition operation and maintenance, and course development.
Zhangzhou is a coastal city in southern China with a high temperature and humidity climate, high salt content in the air, which can easily cause corrosion of exhibition metal parts and interfere with sensor signals, posing high requirements for the operation and maintenance of electromechanical exhibitions. The venue operation and maintenance technical team has established a complete equipment management ledger, implemented daily closed door inspections, monthly in-depth maintenance, and quarterly maintenance processes for the entire venue, carried out special treatment for equipment moisture and rust prevention in coastal environments, regularly replaced high loss components such as motors, sensors, and controllers, and ensured the stable operation of various mechanical and electrical exhibitions. The Zhangzhou Science Museum integrates Minnan marine culture and local traditional skills, improves the layout of science popularization sites in Minnan region, and helps to continuously improve the scientific literacy of the entire population in the area.
