The Zhejiang Science Museum is located in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. It is a provincial-level benchmark large-scale comprehensive science popularization venue in East China. The old museum was put into use earlier, and the new museum was built and opened in 2024. The total construction area of the new museum is 47000 square meters, with a permanent exhibition hall area of 20000 square meters. It is equipped with a ball screen cinema, a 4D dynamic cinema, a giant screen science popularization cinema, a large lecture hall, a maker innovation practice center, and a science popularization laboratory. By 2025, the first round of optimization and upgrade of exhibition items will be completed after opening up. A large number of electromechanical interactive exhibitions will be debugged, the interaction logic of exhibition items will be optimized, some sensor hardware will be updated, and the exhibition fault monitoring system will be improved. The venue implements a free online real name reservation system for visits, and is open to the whole society from Wednesday to Sunday. It is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays for large-scale equipment inspections and system maintenance. The venue is a leading position in science popularization education in Zhejiang Province, radiating throughout the East China region. It undertakes multiple provincial-level functions such as planning large-scale science popularization exhibitions, organizing science and technology innovation events, training science popularization talents, and developing research and development courses.
The venue is equipped with eight permanent themed exhibition halls: Basic Science Exhibition Hall, Aerospace Exhibition Hall, Life Evolution Exhibition Hall, Marine Science Exhibition Hall, Artificial Intelligence and Digital Exhibition Hall, Green Low Carbon Exhibition Hall, Zhejiang Science and Technology History Exhibition Hall, and Children's Science Playground. The Basic Science Exhibition Hall has a large-scale cluster of interactive exhibitions in mechanics, acoustics, optics, and electromagnetics, covering the vast majority of basic science knowledge points in primary and secondary school science courses, providing students with hands-on practical experience. The Aerospace Exhibition Hall is equipped with large spacecraft models and multiple sets of immersive aerospace simulation experience electromechanical devices, showcasing scientific content related to aerospace engineering and astronomy. The Life Evolution Exhibition Hall explains the evolution of life on Earth, biodiversity, and knowledge related to human life sciences. The Marine Science Exhibition Hall is based in the coastal areas of Zhejiang, showcasing marine geology, marine ecology, and marine engineering technology. The Artificial Intelligence and Digital Exhibition Hall focuses on cutting-edge digital technology, showcasing the principles of artificial intelligence, big data, and robotics technology. The green and low-carbon exhibition hall revolves around the dual carbon goal, promoting science popularization knowledge related to energy conservation, emission reduction, and new energy. The Zhejiang Science and Technology History Exhibition Hall is a distinctive feature of our museum, which showcases the achievements of ancient handicrafts, water conservancy engineering, and modern scientific and technological innovation industries in Zhejiang. The children's science playground is divided into experience areas according to different age groups, adapted to the exploration needs of young children, and all equipment is equipped with safety protection standards. Multiple science popularization cinemas offer various forms of immersive science popularization viewing experiences, while the Maker Innovation Practice Center and Science Popularization Laboratory provide advanced science and technology innovation training for young people across the province.
The venue undertakes the function of leading provincial science popularization, with a complete curriculum system for educational research, covering the entire school age range of kindergarten, primary school, junior high school, and high school. It also hosts a large number of educational research groups from various parts of East China. Regularly carry out science popularization lectures, large-scale scientific experiment carnivals, and provincial youth science and technology innovation competitions; Multiple advanced science and technology innovation research camps will be held during winter and summer vacations. The venue organizes science popularization caravans to travel to mountainous areas, islands, and rural schools in Zhejiang to carry out mobile science popularization, and to lower the quality of science popularization resources to the grassroots level. The number of exhibitions in the venue is huge, and the annual reception of tourists is enormous. Exhibitions operate frequently, resulting in high equipment wear and pressure. At the same time, the high humidity during the rainy season in Jiangnan poses a challenge to mechanical and electrical components. A dedicated large-scale operation and maintenance department will be established in the venue, equipped with professional technical personnel in the fields of automation, mechatronics, and electronics. A full lifecycle management file for exhibitions will be established, and daily inspections and quarterly deep maintenance will be strictly implemented. Regular testing and replacement of damaged components such as motors, sensors, and controllers will be carried out, and equipment moisture-proof treatment will be done to ensure that a high level of integrity is maintained for a large number of exhibitions. Zhejiang Science Museum is based on local industries and regional culture in Zhejiang, creating a modern provincial-level science popularization complex to drive the improvement of scientific literacy among the entire East China region.
