The Zhenjiang Science Museum is located in Zhenjiang City, Jiangsu Province. It is a comprehensive science popularization venue at the municipal level in the central Jiangsu region. It was officially built and opened to the public in 2020, with a total construction area of 7900 square meters and a permanent exhibition hall area of 3700 square meters. It is equipped with a science popularization 4D cinema, a youth maker workshop, and a multifunctional lecture hall. Complete the upgrade and renovation of the Yangtze River Ecological Science Popularization Exhibition Area in 2023, adding multiple sets of ecological themed electromechanical interactive exhibition items; In 2024, iterate the control system for children's science playground exhibition items and optimize security protection details. The venue implements a free online reservation system for visits, and is open to the public from Wednesday to Sunday every week. It is closed on Monday and Tuesday for equipment inspection and maintenance, serving the entire city of Zhenjiang and radiating to surrounding cities in central Jiangsu. It is an important youth science popularization and research base in central Jiangsu.
The venue is divided into seven functional exhibition halls: Basic Science Exhibition Hall, Life and Health Exhibition Hall, Disaster Prevention and Safety Exhibition Hall, Yangtze River Ecology Exhibition Hall, Zhenjiang Ancient Science and Technology Exhibition Hall, Children's Science Playground, and Temporary Exhibition Hall. The Basic Science Exhibition Hall is equipped with a complete set of classic electromechanical interactive science exhibitions in mechanics, acoustics, optics, and electromagnetics, transforming textbook scientific principles into hands-on experience projects to meet the extracurricular scientific practice needs of local primary and secondary school students. The Life and Health Exhibition Hall conducts science popularization around human physiological functions, dietary nutrition, and disease prevention, helping visitors establish a healthy lifestyle awareness. The disaster prevention and safety exhibition hall is designed for common disasters in the Yangtze River Basin, equipped with earthquake simulation and fire escape training equipment, and teaches practical skills for risk avoidance and self rescue. The Yangtze River Ecological Exhibition Hall is a featured exhibition area of our museum, based on the location of the Yangtze River coastline in Zhenjiang, showcasing scientific knowledge related to the ecological environment, hydrology and water conservancy of the Yangtze River. The Zhenjiang Ancient Science and Technology Exhibition Hall excavates the achievements of ancient water conservancy, smelting, and handicraft technology in Zhenjiang along the Grand Canal, combining local historical culture with popular science education. The children's science playground is designed for children aged 3-8 years old, with all exhibit items featuring rounded corners for protection, and designated areas for building and water play experiences. The temporary exhibition hall introduces science popularization tours from Jiangsu Province and Zhenjiang City, and dynamically updates the exhibition content. The 4D science popularization cinema plays science and education films in a loop, and the maker workshop offers hands-on courses for young people in science and technology innovation.
The venue continues to deepen cooperation between the museum and the school, and develops research-based courses that are suitable for local learning situations in all primary and secondary schools in Zhenjiang City. School groups can make appointments for dedicated science popularization lectures during visits. Regularly conducting science experiment shows and science popularization public welfare classes on weekends; We offer science and technology research camps during winter and summer vacations, recruiting students from all primary and secondary schools in the city. The science popularization caravan travels to primary and secondary schools in counties, townships, and towns under its jurisdiction to carry out mobile science popularization, filling the gap in grassroots science popularization resources in rural areas. The venue hosted science popularization colleagues from various regions in central Jiangsu to exchange ideas and share practical experience in operating science popularization venues at the municipal level.
Zhenjiang belongs to the Jiangnan region. During the rainy season, the air humidity is high, which can easily cause the metal parts of mechanical and electrical exhibitions to become damp and sensor signals to drift. The venue operation and maintenance team shall establish a complete equipment ledger, implement daily closed door inspections, monthly in-depth maintenance, and quarterly maintenance throughout the venue, carry out equipment moisture-proof maintenance, regularly replace high loss components such as motors, sensors, and controllers, and ensure the stable operation of mechanical and electrical exhibitions. The Zhenjiang Science Museum integrates the local culture of the Yangtze River Canal, improves the layout of science popularization sites in central Jiangsu, and continuously enhances the scientific literacy of the local population.
