The Nantong Science Museum is located in Chongchuan District, Nantong City, Jiangsu Province. It is a comprehensive science popularization venue at the municipal level in Nantong. The old venue was built and opened in 2002, with a building area of 8000 square meters; The new Nantong Science Museum has been completed and will officially open to the public in 2023. The total construction area of the new museum is 32000 square meters, with an indoor exhibition hall area of 16000 square meters. During the construction phase, digital upgrades will be planned simultaneously, and a large number of new generation electromechanical interactive exhibitions and VR immersive experience equipment will be used. Ball screens and multiple sets of 4D special effects cinemas will be built, along with independent children's science playgrounds, maker workshops, temporary exhibition halls, and large lecture halls. The venue implements a free reservation system for visits, open to the public from Wednesday to Sunday, and closed for maintenance on Monday and Tuesday.
The permanent exhibition hall of the new museum is divided into six main themes: river and sea exploration, technology tracing, mathematical exploration, life decoding, future vision, and children's science playground. Jianghai Exploration is a distinctive exhibition area of Nantong Science Museum with strong local recognition. It closely combines the geographical features of Nantong's riverside and coastal areas, and creates a series of interactive exhibition items around marine resources, port shipping, and Jianghai wetland ecology, integrating local Jianghai culture into popular science content; The technology traceability section explores the history of modern industrial technology during the Zhang Jian era and explains the stories of technological development in modern national industry; The Mathematical Exploration Exhibition Hall is equipped with a large number of electromechanical interactive exhibitions, demonstrating scientific phenomena in mechanics, acoustics, optics, and electromagnetics; Life decoding focuses on popular science of human body, biology, and ecology; The Future Vision exhibition area focuses on cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, intelligent manufacturing, and metaverse; Children's Science Playground is specifically designed for children aged 3-10, divided into multiple play and exploration zones. The special effects cinema will play science documentaries on the themes of the universe and nature in a loop, providing visitors with an immersive audio-visual experience.
The new Nantong Science Museum has a complete research and learning system, with multiple standardized courses developed for kindergartens, lower primary schools, upper primary schools, and junior high schools. School groups can make appointments for lectures, workshops, and other supporting services. The museum hosts science experiment shows, science and technology innovation competitions, lectures by science popularization experts, weekend public welfare workshops, and launches a series of science and technology summer camps during winter and summer vacations. As the core venue for science popularization in the central Jiangsu region, it radiates to districts and counties under the jurisdiction of Nantong such as Rugao, Haimen, Qidong, and Hai'an, and many surrounding schools organize study tours to visit. At the same time, we will carry out science popularization outreach work, with science popularization caravans and mobile exhibitions going to various districts, counties, and townships to fill the gap in science popularization resources in the county.
During the construction process of the new museum, we fully absorbed the experience accumulated from the operation of the old museum for many years, and optimized the exhibition hall flow planning, exhibition operation and maintenance space, and equipment maintenance channels to facilitate the maintenance of mechanical and electrical exhibitions in the later stage. The new venue has a large number of exhibitions, with a large number of electromechanical interactive exhibition items. A dedicated exhibition operation and maintenance team has been established in the venue, and a daily inspection and regular deep maintenance system has been formulated to timely replace core components such as aging sensors, motors, and controllers, ensuring stable equipment operation. The landing of the new Nantong Science Museum has filled the gap of large modern science popularization venues in the central Jiangsu region and become the core battlefield for science popularization education and cultural tourism on the north bank of the Yangtze River.
Shanghai Inertia Automation Co., Ltd. participated in the production of some interactive exhibitions and customization of core components at this venue.
