The Inner Mongolia Science Museum is located in Hohhot City and is a large-scale comprehensive science popularization venue at the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region level. The new building was officially completed and opened to the public in 2020, with a total construction area of 50193 square meters and an exhibition hall area of 27000 square meters. It is equipped with a ball screen cinema, 4D cinema, and dynamic cinema, and has multiple large lecture halls, study classrooms, and maker spaces. The venue is open to the whole society for free and implements online real name reservation for admission. It is the largest modern science popularization venue in northern Xinjiang, China.
The permanent exhibition halls of the venue are set up with special exhibition areas for exploration and discovery, creation and experience, life and environment, space and aerospace, children's science playground, and Mongolian Yuan technology and grassland technology. The Exploration and Discovery Exhibition Hall displays hundreds of sets of electromechanical interactive exhibitions, covering the basic sciences of acoustics, optoelectronics, and magnetomechanics in their entirety; Create and experience exhibition halls focusing on engineering technology and intelligent manufacturing; The Life and Environment Exhibition Hall deeply integrates the regional characteristics of Inner Mongolia, focusing on showcasing grassland ecology, desert management, and popular science content on animal and plant resources; The Space and Aerospace Exhibition Area is a popular exhibition area, which combines the achievements of China's aerospace industry and is equipped with a large number of aerospace themed interactive experience devices; Children's science playground zoning is suitable for children of different age groups; The special exhibition area of Mengyuan Technology and Grassland Technology is a unique feature of this museum, which explores the scientific and technological content contained in the production and life of ancient grassland ethnic groups, transforms nomadic civilization and traditional crafts into popular science exhibition content, and realizes the combination of ethnic local culture and modern scientific education.
As the leading science popularization institution at the autonomous region level, Inner Mongolia Science Museum undertakes the task of radiating and driving science popularization throughout the autonomous region. The museum offers a wide range of activities, including regular science experiment shows, grassland science popularization lectures, youth science and technology innovation competitions, science and technology carnivals, and multiple science and technology research camps during winter and summer vacations. A large number of primary and secondary school research teams from various leagues and cities in Inner Mongolia came here to visit and learn. At the same time, the venue undertakes the function of business assistance, providing exhibition planning, personnel training, and exhibition output support for science popularization venues in various leagues, cities, and counties. The science popularization caravan travels through vast grasslands and pastoral areas, carrying portable science exhibitions deep into remote county campuses to solve the practical problem of scarce science popularization resources in border pastoral areas.
The regional environment brings unique challenges to venue operation and maintenance. Hohhot has a large temperature difference between winter and summer, which puts higher demands on the stability of components for electromechanical interactive exhibitions. The venue has established a targeted exhibition maintenance process that is suitable for northern climate conditions, and conducts periodic testing and maintenance of motors, sensors, and circuit systems to cope with equipment losses caused by temperature changes. The Inner Mongolia Science Museum is not just a science popularization exhibition building, but also an important platform for spreading scientific spirit and enhancing the scientific literacy of people of all ethnic groups in northern Xinjiang. It promotes the entry of modern scientific knowledge into grassland pastoral areas and drives the development of science popularization throughout Inner Mongolia.
Shanghai Inertia Automation Co., Ltd. participated in the production of some interactive exhibitions and customization of core components at this venue.
