The Ningxia Science Museum is located in Yinchuan City, Ningxia. It is a provincial-level comprehensive science popularization education venue in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. The old museum was officially opened to the public in 1988, and the new museum, as a key construction project for the 50th anniversary of the autonomous region, was officially completed and opened to the public in September 2008. The new venue covers a total area of 3.88 hectares, with a total construction area of 29664 square meters and a permanent exhibition hall area of 16101 square meters. The venue consists of three major building units: the main exhibition hall, dome cinema, and comprehensive building. In 2018, the venue carried out a large-scale update and renovation of exhibition items, comprehensively upgrading the exhibition control systems of the space exploration exhibition area and the life and health exhibition area; Complete the overall renovation of the children's science popularization experience exhibition area in 2022, replace aging mechanical and electrical exhibits, improve the safety protection system of the children's exhibition area, and optimize the hardware equipment of the dome cinema projection. The venue implements a free real name reservation and is open to the public. It receives public visits from Wednesday to Sunday and is closed on Monday and Tuesday for equipment maintenance. It is an important science popularization base in the northwest region of China.
There are a total of eleven themed exhibition areas set up inside the venue, including the foyer, space exploration exhibition area, life and health exhibition area, ocean and home exhibition area, basic science exhibition area, energy utilization exhibition area, disaster prevention and reduction safety exhibition area, youth innovation practice exhibition area, children's science popularization experience exhibition area, local scientific and technological achievements exhibition area, and multi-functional activity area. The space exploration exhibition area is the core characteristic exhibition area of the venue, equipped with a large number of space science popularization interactive equipment. It focuses on China's manned spaceflight and lunar exploration projects to carry out science popularization exhibitions, and a large number of young people come here to learn space related scientific knowledge; The Life and Health Exhibition Area focuses on designing multiple interactive experience devices around human anatomy, disease prevention, and dietary nutrition, aiming to promote the concept of healthy living among young people; The basic science exhibition area focuses on displaying classic interactive science exhibitions in mechanics, acoustics, optics, and electromagnetics. Visitors can operate them hands-on and intuitively experience various physical science phenomena; The disaster prevention and mitigation safety exhibition area combines the characteristics of disasters in the northwest region, and sets up exhibition items such as earthquake simulation experience, popularization of wind and sand disasters, and fire escape training; The Children's Science Popularization Experience Exhibition Area is specifically designed for children aged 3-8 years old. All equipment has undergone rounded corner safety treatment and is divided into multiple play zones for water science experience, construction and creation, and sensory exploration, adapting to the cognitive level of young children. The local science and technology achievements exhibition area focuses on the local characteristics of Ningxia, showcasing local scientific and technological achievements such as goji berry industry, photovoltaic power generation, and wind and sand control, integrating local industrial development and popular science education. The supporting dome screen cinema can play astronomical science popularization films, bringing the audience an immersive experience of watching the universe.
The Ningxia Science Museum has established a complete system of science popularization activities. The museum regularly holds science experiment shows, weekend science popularization classes, aerospace themed science popularization lectures, and youth science and technology innovation competitions. It also offers science and technology research summer camps during winter and summer vacations, and develops layered research courses for different stages of primary and junior high school. Various primary and secondary schools in the area can submit group appointments and enjoy exclusive lecture services. As the leading venue for science popularization at the autonomous region level, it undertakes the function of radiating and driving science popularization to various cities and counties in Ningxia. The science popularization caravan is loaded with portable interactive science exhibitions and travels to primary and secondary schools in towns and villages such as Guyuan and Zhongwei, bringing scientific experiences to rural students and alleviating the shortage of grassroots science popularization resources. The venue regularly conducts business training for science popularization staff in cities and counties within the district, sharing practical experience in exhibition operation and maintenance, event planning, and explanation services, and driving the common progress of science popularization venues throughout the district.
Located in the northwest inland region, there is a significant temperature difference between day and night, as well as between winter and summer, which poses a considerable challenge to the stability of electromechanical interactive exhibition components. Establish a complete exhibition operation and maintenance management system for the venue, establish a dedicated technical maintenance team, implement daily closed door inspections and monthly in-depth maintenance mechanisms, regularly inspect and replace core components such as motors, sensors, and controllers, adapt to local climate conditions, and extend the service life of exhibitions as much as possible to ensure that exhibitions maintain a high level of integrity.
