The Putian Science Museum is located in Putian City, Fujian Province. It is a comprehensive science popularization venue at the municipal level in Putian. The total construction area of the venue is 4500 square meters, and the exhibition hall has a usable area of 2400 square meters. It was officially completed and opened to the public in 2020. In 2024, partial exhibition items will be updated and renovated, children's exhibition area equipment will be upgraded, a batch of old sensors will be replaced, the exhibition hall tour route will be optimized, and barrier free visiting facilities will be added. The venue is open to the public for free and adopts an online reservation mode for admission. It mainly serves primary and secondary school students and their families in Putian city. It is open to the public from Wednesday to Sunday and closed for maintenance on Monday and Tuesday. It is an important science popularization education practice base in the central Fujian region.
The venue is equipped with five permanent sections: Basic Science Exhibition Hall, Ocean and Ecology Exhibition Hall, Life and Health Exhibition Hall, Children's Science Playground, and Temporary Special Exhibition Hall. The Basic Science Exhibition Hall displays a series of classic electromechanical interactive exhibitions in the fields of sound, light, electricity, and magnetism, allowing visitors to experience physical phenomena firsthand and break free from the limitations of textbook theories; The Ocean and Ecology Exhibition Hall combines the regional characteristics of Putian's coastal city, creating themed exhibition items around marine fisheries, coastal ecology, and marine disasters, showcasing scientific knowledge related to Fujian's coastal ocean; The Life and Health Exhibition Hall conducts science popularization around human physiology, hygiene and epidemic prevention, and reasonable diet; Children's Science Playground is designed for young children, with all equipment implementing safety protection standards. It offers experiential projects such as water powered games, building blocks, and sensory exploration; The temporary special exhibition hall will regularly introduce various domestic science popularization exhibitions, rotating exhibition content around hot topics such as aerospace, carbon neutrality, and artificial intelligence, and continuously bringing fresh science popularization content to the venue.
Putian Science Museum is deeply committed to cooperation between museums and schools, and has established long-term cooperative relationships with local primary and secondary schools in Putian. It has developed multiple sets of research-based practical courses that are suitable for different grades, and school groups can enjoy lectures and science popularization workshop supporting services by making appointments. The museum regularly conducts science experiment shows, weekend science and technology innovation classes, and winter and summer science and technology experience camps to enrich the extracurricular science activities of young people. At the same time, we will implement the popularization of science and rely on the science popularization caravan project to carry portable science popularization equipment to schools in various districts and towns, filling the gap in science popularization resources in counties and allowing rural students to experience interactive science exhibitions.
As a medium-sized science popularization venue at the municipal level, Putian Science Museum also faces common problems with many municipal level venues in China, such as limited annual update budgets and pressure to purchase large quantities of new exhibition items. The venue adopts a diversified content supplement strategy, actively connects with the provincial science and technology association to introduce touring exhibitions, and completes the iteration of exhibition hall content at low cost; At the same time, it is important to focus on the maintenance and upkeep of existing exhibits, establish an exhibit equipment ledger, carry out daily inspections, and promptly troubleshoot any malfunctions. The Putian Science Museum undertakes the function of scientific enlightenment for young people in the central Fujian region, continuously disseminating scientific knowledge to the local population and helping to steadily improve the scientific literacy of the local population.
