The Ruichang Science Museum is located in Ruichang City, Jiangxi Province. It is a county-level comprehensive science popularization venue with a total construction area of 4100 square meters and an actual exhibition hall area of 2300 square meters. It was officially completed and opened to the public in 2021. In 2024, partial renovation and renovation will be carried out to upgrade the disaster prevention and safety exhibition area, replace a batch of aging mechanical and electrical exhibits, and optimize the safety protection of the children's exhibition area. The venue is open for free reservation to the public, and visitors are welcome from Wednesday to Sunday. It is closed for maintenance on Monday and Tuesday, mainly serving local primary and secondary school students and families in Ruichang. At the same time, it radiates to the surrounding counties of Jiujiang and is a typical representative of county-level science popularization venues in northern Jiangxi.
The venue is equipped with five functional sections: Basic Science Exhibition Hall, Disaster Prevention and Reduction Safety Exhibition Hall, Life and Health Exhibition Hall, Children's Science Playground, and Temporary Exhibition Hall. The Basic Science Exhibition Hall displays interactive science exhibitions in mechanics, acoustics, optics, and electromagnetics, allowing visitors to experience the principles of basic science firsthand; The Disaster Prevention and Reduction Safety Exhibition Hall is a key characteristic exhibition area of the venue, equipped with earthquake simulation platforms, fire escape experience channels, emergency self rescue training equipment, and immersive safety education for common disasters in the Yangtze River Basin such as earthquakes, floods, and fires. Many local primary and secondary schools have designated this place as a designated practice site for safety research; The Life and Health Exhibition Hall conducts popular science education on human physiology, hygiene and epidemic prevention, and dietary nutrition; The children's science playground is specifically designed for children aged 3-8, with all exhibit items rounded for safety, and equipped with water science experiences, game building, and sensory exploration devices; The temporary exhibition hall regularly introduces provincial science popularization touring exhibitions, and completes the rotation of exhibition hall content at a lower cost.
Ruichang Science Museum fully utilizes the functions of county-level venues, deepens local museum school cooperation, connects with primary and secondary schools in the city, undertakes students' extracurricular scientific practice tasks, and provides group visits with scheduled explanation services. The museum regularly conducts weekend science classes and science experiment shows, and short-term technology experience activities during winter and summer vacations. Relying on the science popularization caravan project, portable science exhibitions are carried deep into various township schools, delivering scientific experiences to rural students and bridging the last mile of county-level science popularization services.
Due to the budget constraints of county-level venues, the venues do not have the conditions to continuously purchase new large-scale exhibition items on a large scale. Therefore, the focus of work is on the operation and maintenance of existing exhibitions, establishing equipment inspection records, and having technical personnel regularly maintain mechanical and electrical exhibitions to promptly troubleshoot and ensure the normal operation of equipment. As a county-level science popularization platform, Ruichang Science Museum undertakes the important task of science enlightenment for local youth, providing accessible science popularization services for the local population and driving the continuous improvement of scientific literacy among the local population in Ruichang.
