The new Shenzhen Science Museum is located in Guangming District, Shenzhen. It is a large modern comprehensive science popularization venue in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. It was officially completed and opened to the public in 2023, with a total construction area of 128200 square meters and a permanent exhibition hall area of 41000 square meters. It is equipped with IMAX giant screen cinema, ball screen cinema, 4D dynamic cinema, a large lecture hall, multiple maker workshops, and research and practice classrooms. After the opening of the venue, the exhibition items will continue to be iterated. By 2025, the cutting-edge technology section will be partially updated, multiple sets of AI interactive exhibitions will be upgraded, and the exhibition hall crowd diversion system will be optimized. The venue implements an online real name reservation and ticket purchase system, which is a new landmark of science popularization, culture and tourism in the Greater Bay Area.
The venue is equipped with seven permanent exhibition areas: Science Exploration Exhibition Hall, Universe and Ocean Exhibition Hall, Technological Innovation Exhibition Hall, Life and Health Exhibition Hall, Industrial Civilization Exhibition Hall, Children's Science Playground, and Shenzhen Science and Technology Achievement Special Exhibition Hall. The Science Exploration Exhibition Hall gathers a large number of electromechanical interactive exhibitions, covering mechanics, acoustics, optics, and electromagnetics in their entirety. Visitors can hands-on operate and intuitively experience basic scientific phenomena; The Space and Ocean Exhibition Hall combines the advantages of the Greater Bay Area's coastal location and covers two major themes: astronomy, aerospace, and marine science. It is equipped with space simulation equipment and interactive devices for marine scientific research; The technology innovation exhibition hall focuses on cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, quantum technology, and metaverse, and extensively uses immersive interactive exhibition items; The Life and Health Exhibition Hall conducts science popularization around human science, biomedicine, and ecological protection; The Industrial Civilization Exhibition Hall showcases the development history of modern engineering technology; The children's science playground is divided into exploration zones based on age groups to adapt to the cognitive characteristics of children of different ages; The Shenzhen Science and Technology Achievement Special Exhibition Hall is based on the advantages of local industries in Shenzhen, showcasing innovative achievements in high-tech industries and integrating the city's scientific and technological innovation strength into popular science education content. Multiple special effects cinemas provide high-quality science popularization films to meet the immersive viewing needs of the public.
The construction of the research and learning system at the new Science Museum in Shenzhen has been improved, and standardized research and learning courses covering the entire kindergarten to high school stage have been developed. A large number of primary and secondary schools and research institutions in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area have organized groups to carry out practical activities here. The museum regularly holds science experiment shows, science and technology innovation lectures, youth science and technology competitions, and science and technology themed carnivals. Multiple science and technology innovation research camps are also held during winter and summer vacations. During the venue construction phase, the pressure of later operation and maintenance should be fully anticipated, and sufficient exhibition maintenance channels should be reserved inside the exhibition hall to facilitate the maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment. Establish a specialized operation and maintenance technical team for the venue, establish a complete equipment inspection and maintenance system, complete daily troubleshooting for all interactive exhibitions, conduct periodic maintenance and replacement of damaged components such as motors, sensors, and controllers, and ensure the stable operation of a large number of modern interactive exhibitions. The completion of the new Shenzhen Science Museum has filled the gaps in the large modern comprehensive science popularization venues in the Greater Bay Area, becoming an important highland for scientific enlightenment among young people in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, and helping to enhance the scientific literacy of the entire Greater Bay Area population.
