The Shuozhou Science Museum is located in Shuozhou City, Shanxi Province. It is a comprehensive science popularization venue at the prefecture level in northern Shanxi Province. The total construction area of the venue is 4300 square meters, and the actual exhibition area is 2100 square meters. It will be officially completed and open to the public in 2022. In 2024, partial exhibition items will be upgraded and renovated, with a focus on updating the energy science popularization exhibition area, optimizing the safety protection of the children's exhibition area, and upgrading the control system of some mechanical and electrical exhibitions. The venue is open for free reservation to the public, and visitors are welcome from Wednesday to Sunday. It is closed for maintenance on Monday and Tuesday, serving all districts and counties under the jurisdiction of Shuozhou City. It is an important youth science popularization research and practice base in northern Shanxi.
The venue is divided into six sections: Basic Science Exhibition Hall, Energy and Environment Exhibition Hall, Life and Health Exhibition Hall, Disaster Prevention and Safety Exhibition Hall, Children's Science Playground, and Temporary Exhibition Hall. The basic science exhibition hall is equipped with classic interactive exhibitions of sound, light, electricity, and magnetism, allowing visitors to operate and intuitively experience various basic science principles; The Energy and Environment Exhibition Hall is the most regionally recognizable feature exhibition area of the Science Museum in Shuozhou. It closely integrates with the industrial background of Shuozhou's coal energy city, and creates multiple interactive science popularization exhibition items around coal mining, clean utilization, new energy development, and energy conservation and emission reduction; The Life and Health Exhibition Hall conducts popular science education on human anatomy, dietary nutrition, and hygiene and epidemic prevention; The disaster prevention and safety exhibition hall sets up earthquake simulation and fire escape training equipment for common types of disasters in the north, and carries out immersive safety education; The children's science playground is designed for children aged 3-8, with all equipment equipped with rounded corners for safe handling. It is divided into zones for water play experience, building with blocks, and sensory exploration; The temporary exhibition hall is connected to the provincial science and technology association to introduce touring science popularization exhibitions, achieving low-cost rotation of exhibition hall content.
The Shuozhou Science Museum actively promotes cooperation between museums and schools, establishes collaborative relationships with primary and secondary schools throughout the city, develops research-based practical courses that are suitable for local students, and provides scheduled explanation services for school group visits. The museum regularly holds weekend science and technology innovation classes and science experiment shows, and conducts technology experience activities during winter and summer vacations. Relying on the science popularization caravan project, portable interactive science exhibitions are carried deep into primary and secondary schools in rural areas to fill the gap of insufficient science popularization resources in counties and villages. The venue will also provide exhibition resources to its subordinate district and county science popularization stations, carry out business exchanges and guidance, and promote the common improvement of grassroots science popularization positions in northern Shanxi.
The temperature difference between winter and summer in the northern Shanxi region is large, and the cold winter can have a certain impact on the operation of mechanical and electrical exhibition components. Establish a dedicated operation and maintenance team for the venue, establish equipment maintenance records, conduct daily exhibition inspections in closed rooms, regularly inspect and replace motors, sensors, and controllers, adapt to local climate conditions, and ensure stable operation of exhibitions. The Shuozhou Science Museum fills the gap in modern science popularization venue resources in the northern Shanxi region, undertakes the important function of local youth science enlightenment, and helps to continuously improve the scientific literacy of the entire population in Shuozhou City.
