The Suzhou Youth Science Museum is located in Wuzhong District, Suzhou City. It is a specialized science popularization venue for young people in the Yangtze River Delta region. The venue was officially built and opened to the public in 2021, with a total construction area of 22000 square meters and a permanent exhibition hall area of 11000 square meters. It is equipped with a 4D cinema, a science popularization lecture hall, and multiple maker innovation workshops. Complete the iteration of partial exhibition items by 2024, update the exhibitions in the robot and artificial intelligence sections, and optimize the exhibition hall tour route. The venue implements a free online reservation system, open to the public from Wednesday to Sunday and closed for maintenance on Monday and Tuesday. It is open to young people in Suzhou and radiates to surrounding cities in southern Jiangsu. It is a highly representative youth themed science popularization base in Jiangsu Province.
The venue is equipped with six themed exhibition areas: Basic Exploration Exhibition Hall, Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Exhibition Hall, Life Sciences Exhibition Hall, Aerospace Exhibition Hall, Children's Exploration Park, and Maker Practice Zone. The Basic Exploration Exhibition Hall is equipped with a large number of interactive exhibitions on mechanics, acoustics, optics, and electromagnetics, using hands-on experience to help young people understand the scientific principles in textbooks; The Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Exhibition Hall is a key characteristic exhibition area of our museum, equipped with multiple sets of interactive robots and AI sensory experience devices. It provides a popular explanation of the principles of artificial intelligence technology for young people and sets up a robot programming practical experience project; The Life Science Exhibition Hall conducts science popularization around human physiology and biodiversity; Display spacecraft models in the aerospace exhibition hall, equip with aerospace simulation interactive experience equipment, and disseminate aerospace science popularization knowledge; The Children's Exploration Park is aimed at young children aged 3-10, divided into multiple play and exploration zones, and all exhibited items are equipped with rounded corner safety protection; The Maker Practice Zone is equipped with programming equipment, manual tools, and scientific and technological innovation equipment, which can carry out practical activities such as robot construction, scientific handicrafts, and scientific and technological innovation competition training.
All exhibition and teaching content and activities in the venue are designed around the growth needs of young people. The study courses are finely divided according to school age, covering kindergarten, primary school lower stage, primary school higher stage, and junior high school. School groups can book professional lectures and maker workshop practical services. The museum regularly conducts science experiment shows, youth science and technology innovation competitions, weekend public science and technology innovation classes, and holds multiple youth science and technology summer camps during winter and summer vacations. As an important base for science popularization in southern Jiangsu, it radiates to county-level cities such as Kunshan, Zhangjiagang, Changshu, and Taicang under the jurisdiction of Suzhou. A large number of surrounding schools have organized study tours here. Science popularization caravans and mobile exhibitions are transported to various districts, counties, and townships to fill the gap in science popularization resources for grassroots youth.
In the early design stage of the venue, full consideration was given to the equipment loss caused by high-frequency operation by young people. High durability electromechanical equipment was given priority in the selection of exhibits, and sufficient maintenance channels were reserved. Establish a dedicated operation and maintenance technical team for the venue, implement daily inspections and quarterly deep maintenance systems, timely replace damaged components such as sensors, motors, and controllers, and ensure the stable operation of large-scale interactive exhibitions. Suzhou Youth Science Museum focuses on the science popularization track for young people, focusing on cultivating their hands-on practical abilities, and building a high-quality scientific exploration platform for young people in the southern Jiangsu region, helping to improve their scientific and technological innovation literacy.
