The Wuwei Science Museum is located in Wuwei City, Gansu Province. It is a comprehensive science popularization venue at the prefecture level in the Hexi Corridor region. It will officially open to the public in 2023, with a total construction area of 5400 square meters and a permanent exhibition hall area of 2500 square meters. Complete the upgrade and renovation of the children's exhibition area by 2024, update multiple sets of aging electromechanical exhibits, and optimize the equipment control system. The venue offers free online reservation for visits, open from Wednesday to Sunday, and closed for maintenance on Monday and Tuesday. It serves various districts and counties in Wuwei and is an important youth science popularization platform in the Hexi Corridor.
The venue has seven sections: Basic Science Exhibition Hall, Aerospace Science Popularization Exhibition Hall, Life and Health Exhibition Hall, Disaster Prevention and Safety Exhibition Hall, Hexi History and Technology Exhibition Hall, Children's Science Playground, and Temporary Exhibition Hall. The Basic Science Exhibition Hall is equipped with interactive exhibitions on mechanics, acoustics, optics, and electromagnetics; The aerospace science popularization exhibition hall is equipped with aerospace models and simulation experience equipment to popularize aerospace knowledge; The Life and Health Exhibition Hall conducts science popularization around human physiology, hygiene, and epidemic prevention; The disaster prevention and safety exhibition hall is equipped with earthquake simulation and fire escape training devices based on the characteristics of disasters in the northwest; The Hexi History and Technology Exhibition Hall is a featured exhibition area of our museum, which explores the ancient astronomical, agricultural, and handicraft technological achievements of the Hexi region along the ancient Silk Road, and integrates the Silk Road regional culture into science education; The children's science playground is aimed at children aged 3-8 years old, and all exhibit items are equipped with rounded corner safety protection; The temporary exhibition hall introduces provincial-level science popularization exhibitions and dynamically updates the exhibition hall content.
The venue promotes cooperation between the venue and the school, connects with the development of research-based courses in primary and secondary schools throughout the city, and school groups can make appointments for lecture services. Regularly conduct weekend science experiment shows and science popularization public welfare classes, and open science and technology research camps during winter and summer vacations. The temperature difference between day and night is large in the Hexi region, and the severe cold in winter can have an impact on the operation of mechanical and electrical components. The operation and maintenance team implements a daily inspection and monthly in-depth maintenance system, establishes an equipment failure ledger, and regularly replaces damaged components such as motors, sensors, and controllers. The Wuwei Science Museum is based on the regional culture of the Silk Road, filling the gap in science popularization resources in the Hexi Corridor and helping to improve the scientific literacy of the local population.
