The Xi'an Science Museum is a key comprehensive science popularization venue in Shaanxi Province. The new building was completed and opened in 2024, with a total construction area of 49000 square meters and a permanent exhibition hall area of 21000 square meters. It is equipped with a ball screen cinema, 4D dynamic cinema, lecture hall, and maker workshop. The venue has completed the debugging of exhibition items during the initial opening period, and a large number of electromechanical interactive exhibitions have been put into operation. The venue offers free online real name reservation for visits. It is open from Wednesday to Sunday and closed for maintenance on Monday and Tuesday. It is a core science education base in the northwest region.
The venue is equipped with eight exhibition areas: Basic Science Exhibition Hall, Aerospace Exhibition Hall, Mechanical Engineering Exhibition Hall, Life Science Exhibition Hall, Disaster Prevention and Reduction Exhibition Hall, Artificial Intelligence Exhibition Hall, Children's Science Playground, and Silk Road Ancient Science and Technology Special Exhibition Hall. The Basic Science Exhibition Hall gathers a massive collection of classic interactive exhibits in acoustics, optoelectronics, and magnetomechanics; The aerospace exhibition hall displays various spacecraft models and is equipped with aerospace simulation experience devices; The mechanical engineering exhibition hall showcases the principles of mechanical transmission and engineering technology; The Life Science Exhibition Hall carries out science popularization on biodiversity and human health; The disaster prevention and mitigation exhibition hall is equipped with earthquake simulation and other practical training equipment based on the characteristics of disasters in the north; The artificial intelligence exhibition hall showcases cutting-edge digital technology; Children's Science Playground creates a safe exploration space for young people; The Silk Road Ancient Technology Exhibition Hall excavates the ancient technological history of Chang'an and is a featured exhibition area of our museum.
The venue undertakes the leading role of science popularization in Shaanxi Province, regularly conducting science popularization lectures, scientific experiment shows, and youth science and technology innovation competitions, and opening multiple study camps during winter and summer vacations. Provide group study and science popularization classroom services for primary and secondary schools in Xi'an and throughout the province. The science popularization caravan goes deep into the suburbs and rural schools of Shaanxi to carry out mobile science popularization. At the same time, we provide business training for science popularization practitioners in various provinces and cities in Northwest China, and export experience in exhibition planning, exhibition operation and maintenance, and event planning.
The venue has a large passenger flow base, and the climate in the northwest is dry with large temperature differences, which puts high demands on the operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment. A dedicated operation and maintenance department will be established at the venue, equipped with technical personnel in the fields of automation and mechatronics. The inspection and maintenance process will be strictly followed, and motor, sensor, and controller components will be regularly replaced to ensure a high level of integrity for large-scale exhibitions. The Xi'an Science Museum is based on the Silk Road culture, driving the improvement of scientific literacy among the people in the northwest region, and is a benchmark science popularization venue in the northwest.
