The Qujing Science Museum is located in Qujing City, Yunnan Province. It is a comprehensive science popularization venue at the municipal level in eastern Yunnan. The venue was officially built and opened to the public in 2021, with a total construction area of 28000 square meters and a permanent exhibition hall area of 14000 square meters. It is equipped with a 4D cinema, science popularization lecture hall, and maker workshop. By 2024, complete the update and renovation of some exhibition items, upgrade the artificial intelligence themed section, replace some mechanical and electrical exhibitions with high usage losses, and improve the accessibility of exhibition halls. The venue is open to the public free of charge and follows the rules of online reservation for admission. Visitors are welcome from Wednesday to Sunday, and the venue is closed for maintenance on Monday and Tuesday. It radiates to various districts and counties under the jurisdiction of Qujing and is an important youth science popularization and research base in eastern Yunnan.
Six permanent exhibition halls are set up inside the venue, including the Basic Science Hall, Life and Ecology Hall, Geology and Resources Hall, Frontier Science and Technology Hall, Children's Science Playground, and Qujing Local Science and Culture Theme Hall. The Basic Science Hall has arranged a large number of interactive exhibitions on sound, light, electricity, and magnetism, allowing visitors to operate and experience basic scientific phenomena firsthand; The Life and Ecology Exhibition Hall is based in the Yunnan region, focusing on the southwest flora and fauna, and biodiversity to create science popularization exhibition items; The Geology and Resources Exhibition Hall is a key feature section of the venue, which combines the ancient fossil resources of Qujing and sets up multiple interactive experience devices to explain scientific knowledge related to geological evolution and paleontology; The Frontier Science and Technology Department focuses on artificial intelligence and intelligent manufacturing, equipped with sensory interaction and machine human science popularization equipment; Children's Science Playground is designed for children aged 3-10, with multiple experience areas including water world, workshop construction, and sensory exploration; The Qujing Local Science and Technology Culture Special Hall excavates local traditional crafts and modern industrial technological achievements, integrating local historical resources into science popularization education. The maker workshops provided by the venue can offer hands-on practical courses such as programming and scientific handicrafts.
Qujing Science Museum attaches great importance to cooperation between museums and schools, and develops graded and classified research-based courses for kindergartens, primary schools, and junior high schools. School groups can book professional lectures and workshop practice services. The museum continues to hold science experiment shows, weekend science popularization classes, and winter and summer science and technology summer camps, enriching local youth's extracurricular science and technology activities. As the core battlefield of science popularization in eastern Yunnan, the venue undertakes the task of sinking science popularization. Science popularization caravans rush to primary and secondary schools in various counties, towns, and villages, bringing science popularization experiences to rural students and filling the gap in grassroots science popularization resources. The temperature and humidity in the eastern Yunnan region show significant seasonal changes, and mechanical and electrical exhibitions require regular maintenance and upkeep. Establish a dedicated operation and maintenance team for the venue, establish a full lifecycle maintenance ledger for exhibitions, conduct daily equipment inspections in closed rooms, regularly replace aging motors, sensors, and controller core components, and ensure the stable operation of various interactive exhibitions. The Qujing Science Museum fills the gap in modern science popularization venues in eastern Yunnan, opens the door to scientific exploration for local young people, and helps build the scientific literacy of the entire population in the region.
