The Sichuan Science Museum is located in Tianfu Square, Chengdu City. It is a large-scale comprehensive science popularization venue at the provincial level in Sichuan Province. The old museum was put into use in the early years, and after renovation and expansion, the new museum was officially opened to the public in 2017. The total construction area is 60000 square meters, with a permanent exhibition hall area of 25000 square meters, supporting a dome theater, 4D cinema, multiple large lecture halls, and maker practice classrooms. The Aerospace Exhibition Hall is a highly popular and distinctive exhibition area in the venue, equipped with a large number of spacecraft models and aerospace simulation interactive equipment, fully showcasing the great achievements of China's aerospace industry; The mechanical exhibition hall focuses on showcasing interactive exhibitions related to mechanical transmission and engineering technology; The Acoustic Optics Exhibition Hall sets up a complete set of experiential equipment around the physical phenomena of sound and light; The Life Science Exhibition Hall is based on the local biological resources of Sichuan, and carries out science popularization on biodiversity and human body science; The disaster prevention and reduction exhibition hall combines the characteristics of Sichuan's geological environment, sets up earthquake simulation experience platforms and geological disaster science popularization devices, and carries out immersive safety education for high-frequency disasters in Southwest China such as earthquakes, flash floods, and landslides; The Basic Science Exhibition Hall gathers a massive collection of classic interactive science exhibits in mechanics and electromagnetics; The children's science playground is divided into experience zones based on age groups, and all exhibit items are implemented with safe rounded corners; The Tianfu Technology Special Exhibition Hall excavates the ancient technological achievements of Bashu and the modern industrial scientific and technological innovation achievements of Sichuan, combining local culture with modern science popularization. The dome screen cinema plays high-quality astronomical science popularization films in a loop, providing an immersive audio-visual experience for the audience.
The Sichuan Science Museum undertakes the core task of leading the radiation of science popularization in Sichuan Province. The museum provides a rich supply of general activities, including regular science experiment shows, Tianfu Science Popularization Lectures, youth science and technology innovation competitions, science carnivals, and multiple science and technology research camps during winter and summer vacations. A large number of primary and secondary schools in various cities of Sichuan have organized study groups to visit and learn here.
